Baby Chicks

So we finally gave in.

My 5 year old son has been asking me for 2 yrs. to buy baby chicks in the spring. Reluctantly we went and purchased a dozen chicks. Don't get me wrong. I'm excited about the prospect of having fresh eggs, and I like the idea of having a little farm out here on our 2 acres. But the obligation of feeding and upkeeping another thing is a bit overwhelming. It should be fun though, actually it has been fun already. Watching the baby chicks change each day is exciting. Especially for the kids. They've already started to grow wing feathers, and have learned to jump out of the box we have them in. It's really cute when they roost on the top of the box. The poop is a whole nother story though. They actually make a really fun pet, and portraits with them are awesome. Short lived but awesome.... Here are a couple of pictures we took. They will be great Mother's Day gifts for the grandmas....

Levi can't resist sucking his thumb any time he touches their soft downy feathers.
